In May 2018, my office welcomed a remarkable group of international students through the Erasmus exchange program, coordinated with the University of Dubrovnik. These were bright, curious minds from Germany, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Uzbekistan — and Croatia — all united by a shared interest in understanding the most complex financial market in the world: foreign exchange.

Over the course of two hours, we explored the world of forex through live trading sessions, observing real-time market movements and the execution of high-volume trades. For many, it was their first direct exposure to the real dynamics of speculation — the speed, the emotion, the opportunity, and most importantly, the risk.
What made this session unique was its diversity. Each student brought different questions, different perspectives, and different motivations. And yet, they all engaged deeply with the material — especially when we focused on risk management, which I always emphasize as the cornerstone of professional trading.

One student from Uzbekistan shared that the experience sparked a strong desire in him to pursue a career as a full-time trader. Whether he ends up at a hedge fund, family office, or trading desk, I hope this session serves as a lasting foundation.
To all the students who attended: I wish you great success in your future careers. May you carry the lessons of discipline, strategy, and integrity into whatever corner of the financial world you enter — whether you’re managing thousands, millions, or one day, billions.
